As we all know Apple has always been faster in delivering iOS to devices compared to Android, and this is due to the fact that iOS is iOS, whereas Android requires adapting varying levels of manufacturer skins to a new version. Additionally, the fact that Apple produces both the hardware and the software undoubtedly contributes to this advantage.

It will not surprise you to hear that 81% of iPhones in the wild already have iOS 16, which was first released last September. If we only consider iPhones launched in the last four years, the figure increases to 90%.

iOS 15 runs on 13% of all iPhones (and 8% of the iPhones released in the past four years), while the remaining iPhones are running some earlier version. On the tablet side, iPadOS 16 is installed on 71% of all iPads, followed by 20% running iPadOS 15. Among iPads released within the last four years, iPadOS 16 holds a market share of 76%, followed by iPadOS 15 with 18%.
