9toMac cracked open iPadOS 17.5 firmware, uncovering evidence of imminent OLED iPad Pros. The firmware spilled the beans on four new iPad identifiers (iPad16,3, iPad16,4, iPad16,5, iPad16,6), aligning with the rumored two sizes (11-inch and 12.9-inch) and cellular/Wi-Fi configurations for the new iPad Pro. This discovery corroborates earlier whispers about Apple‘s display technology shift.

According to reports, LG scored exclusive rights to manufacture the 12.9-inch OLED panel, while Samsung joins LG in producing the 11-inch version. This production shakeup reportedly caused a substantial launch delay, with 18 months having passed since the last iPad Pro update.

The iPadOS 17.5 firmware tantalizes with hints of a new Apple Pencil as well. The code references a squeeze-enabled Apple Pencil with “LongSqueeze” and “DoubleSqueeze” functionalities, plus excitingly, Find My support for the stylus.

According to a report Apple is going to host a launch event in the second week of May to unveil a range of new products, including the latest iPad Pros with OLED displays, a revamped Magic Keyboard, a brand new iPad Air (possibly offered in two sizes), and the third generation Apple Pencil.
