Google is moving its Pixel 9 family launch up by two months to August 13th. This earlier launch date might be an attempt to curb leaks, although recent hands-on videos suggest leaks remain a challenge.

Reports indicate a significant upgrade for the Pixel 9 series with all three models – Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL – ditching the optical in-display scanners used in previous Pixels. Instead, they will adopt ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensors.

This switch aligns the Pixel 9 series with Samsung’s Galaxy S24 series, as both will utilize the Qualcomm 3D Sonic Gen 2 (QFS4008) sensor. Ultrasonic sensors offer several advantages over optical sensors. They don’t require illuminating the display area for scanning, making them potentially faster and more reliable. Additionally, ultrasonic sensors function even when your finger is wet.

However, the report claims the Pixel 9 Pro Fold will deviate from this trend. It will retain the side-mounted capacitive sensor embedded within the power button.
